TESTIMONIALS
“The summer I spent in the TUBERS program was a truly unforgettable experience in many ways. Not only was I able to meet and connect with established professors and researchers, but I also met many motivated, kind, and supportive friends. The structure of the program gave me a very hands-on introduction to what real research and lab work looks like—experiences that have helped me even in my undergraduate years. I would highly recommend this program to anyone interested in pursuing biomedical engineering!” - Meera Ramesh '19 "I did the TUBERS program in both the summer of 2018 and 2019 and it was a valuable and knowledgeable experience both times. The first summer, I worked with Professor Kaplan in his lab where the whole lab team took us through the whole silk fabrication process through various hands-on modules. This was beneficial because as students, we got to see the whole scientific method of going from the raw silk cocoons to manufacturing a complex 3D in vitro silk scaffolded brain model. The second summer that I attended the TUBERS program was also an incredible experience as we got to rotate through different labs within the Tufts biomedical engineering department and gain exposure to a wide variety of top notch research that was being conducted at the university. Near the end of the program, my group got to work with Professor Madeleine Oudin and her research on breast cancer metastasis to the liver in more detail and create a poster presentation of our experimentations and findings. Overall, the TUBERS program was a great way for me as a high school student to learn more about what biomedical engineering really is and encourages younger students to get involved and gain hands-on experience!"
- Trisha Raman '19 "TUBERS was an amazing experience and opportunity to learn more about biomedical engineering and academic research in general. I personally loved seeing the professors, postdocs, grad students, and even undergrads all working so passionately on their projects. The independent 3 week project was also a fantastic way to get hands on experience in the lab and make connections with Tufts professors and students! I highly recommend the TUBERS program to anyone interested in science or STEM!"
- Boyang Wang '19 "My experience in the TUBERS program not only transformed my understanding of BME, but also of academic research in general. Learning about the work being done in different labs and participating in hands-on demonstrations was both exciting and extremely informative. I also realized the possibilities of a career in science from lab members and faculty who shared their experiences and advice. The knowledge, skills, and friendships I made from that summer have stayed with me, and I am beyond grateful to have had this awesome opportunity!"
